Conference THEMES

  • What does it mean to learn French in 2022? What does it mean to teach French?
  • What are the new challenges, what are the ongoing ones?
  • What did the mass shift to online contexts teach us about our practices, the practice of our students, and the language itself?
  • In what way has the shift to a virtual language learning environment enriched our practices and changed (or not) our understanding of language and learner agency in the acquisition process?
  • How have these new perspectives enriched our practice and changed our discussions about what we call Francophone languages and cultures?
  • What are the new challenges?

Presentation TOPICS include, but are not limited to:

  • Pedagogical innovations in the French language classroom.
  • Assessing language in online contexts: challenges and new practices?
  • Language advocacy / outreach in the post Covid context: what have we learned from the pandemic and how has it changed (or not!) the way we advocate for language learning and for the study of French languages and cultures in particular?
  • New mentoring practices (for teachers or students).
  • Transition between levels, contexts (eg F2F vs virtual), teaching approaches (CLIL, AIM etc) and learning modes.
  • Transition between languages: conceptualising languages in terms of two or several "monolingual worlds" or as part of one's translingual or plurilingual repertoire?
  • Interdisciplinary approaches to the learning of French.
  • WIL (Work Integrated Learning) or learning through a combination of academic and work- related activities.
  • Fostering new collaborations/new programs as a result of the pandemic. (eg institutional cooperation, inter-school, interstate or overseas joint initiatives...)
  • Place and role of French and Francophone studies in the post-Covid context - What to teach? Why? and How?
  • Francophonie in the Asia Pacific region: discourse, challenges, obstacles and new possibilities.
  • Meeting the needs of students from diverse linguistic, cultural, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Écriture inclusive/ gender neutral language and its place in the classroom.
  • What does intercultural capability look like post-Covid? How do we develop higher order thinking skills in this area?
