We are indeed fortunate this year to be able to experience Bonnard, Rembrandt and Chagall all in Melbourne in 2023 .
The AFTV is pleased to invite AFTV members and guests to an AFTV Cultural PL Event at The Jewish Museum of Australia; with thanks to The Art Co., it is proud to present CHAGALL – an exhibition celebrating the story of an international master, among the greatest artists of the twentieth century, Marc Chagall (1887-1985).
International curator and art historian, Jade Niklai, has transformed the Museum into a Chagall-inspired dreamscape that includes more than 100 original works- paintings, stained glass, illustrated poems, etchings, engravings, woodcuts and more. Chagall is remembered for his highly personal visual language and poignant consideration of universal and timeless themes such as joy, love and melancholy. Combining the Jewish folkloric painterly roots of his native Russia and the Parisian avant-garde, with fauvist, cubist, and expressionist styles, Chagall created a sensibility that was truly his own, with his name and influence held by many alongside Picasso, Matisse and Monet
We will be immersed in the colour, narratives and whimsy of Chagall through an interactive floor talk in English and French as we enter each
room that focuses on a specific theme, style or medium -a remarkable opportunity to journey through the depths of printmaking, the intimacy
of illustrated poetry and the grandness of Chagall's public art commissions such as the ceiling of the Opera Garnier in Paris.
Joseph (Yosef—Hebrew), 1960 ‘
Joseph is a fruitful vine near a spring, whose branches climb over a wall. (…) because of the Almighty, who blesses you with blessings of
the skies above, blessings of the deep springs below.’ – Genesis 49
