AFTV 2026 PL: Ready, Set, VCE – Effective strategies for teaching Units 2 & 4 French

On the cusp of Semester 2, the Ready, Set, VCE! Effective Strategies for teachers of Units 2 and 4 PL session aims at equipping participants in:     

  • Developing strong VCE French School-Assessed Coursework (Units 2 and 4).
  • Discussing and implementing strategies to assess and mark the VCE French School Assessed Coursework (Units 2 and 4).
  • Looking at the progression expected in students' work in the 3 VCAA-given outcomes, from Unit 1 to Unit 2 and Unit 3 to Unit 4.
  • Sharing best practice and working collaboratively.


This workshop is aimed at supporting current teachers of VCE.

PLEASE NOTE: Participants are encouraged to bring their Unit 1 and Unit 3 tasks to optimise their experience of the workshop.

Presenter Bios

Isabelle Mangeot-Hewison has been Head of Languages and teacher of French at St Michael's Grammar School, St Kilda, for 28 years. She is a member of the AFTV Committee and has worked with diverse institutions such as the Alliance Française de Melbourne, Melbourne and Monash Universities, Pearson Publisher and the VCAA on diverse projects. Curiosity and a thirst for fun challenges inform her modus operandi. Year after year, marking School-Assessed-Coursework and preparing students for the VCE external exams remains a challenge. Isabelle even believes it can be fun!


Elodie Lyoen After 9 years of teaching across Years 7–12 in the UK, Elodie has extensive experience delivering both the Australian Curriculum and the IB MYP programme. She is an oral and written examiner for VCE French and is currently Head of French at Brighton Grammar. In this role, she develops targeted resources aligned with each outcome, prepares students for all aspects of assessment, and explicitly teaches the essential skills required for exam success. Elodie has also developed effective strategies to meet the requirements of the French Study Design and support students in achieving strong results in their French studies.

    Accommodation – This is an exclusive rate that needs to be booked directly with the Savoy Hotel as the AFTV is not in charge of booking rooms for participants:

    • Wednesday 6 May - $215.00 inclusive of breakfast for one person
    • Thursday 7 May - $215.00 inclusive of breakfast for one person

    Parking - There is parking at Nationwide, just across the road from the Savoy Hotel.

    • As participants are attending for 1/2 day, the cheapest option is to swipe your credit card at the gate and receive the $21.00 option.
    • If you pay via the hotel it is $40.00 for 24 hours.
