COMPTE RENDU - Francophone student activity - La gloire de mon père

Posted 12 Dec '25

It was a first on many levels, hence maybe the grand presence of the letter A, on Thursday 4 December 2025 at Glen Eira College.

  1. The AFTV, fresh from the #FrenchForward AFTV Conference for teachers, organised a special event for Francophone students. Bilingual/Francophone students are not often, if ever, given particular consideration among the AFTV Students Activities; we felt that a French play would be an apt end-of-year activity, and an acknowledgement of Francophone students' special place in the French community in Melbourne.
  2. It was a first as well for the AAFEBS (Australian Association of French English Bilingual Schools): 4 student-groups of member schools of the AAFEBS were present for the first time at an event organised by the AFTV. We were delighted to welcome 180 students and teachers from Albert Park College, Auburn High School, Caulfield Junior School and of course Glen Eira College.
  3. And of course, heartfelt thanks to Antoine Seguin from L'ACCOMPAGNIE, who delighted us with his adaptation of LA GLOIRE DE MON PÈRE. The young audience were mesmerised by Marcel Pagnol's childhood story. They reacted in turn with joy, sadness, child-disgust 😊 and laughter as Antoine took them on the journey of simple yet ever more wonderful provençal memories of a boy their age a century ago.

“Dans ces souvenirs, je ne dirai de moi ni mal ni bien ; ce n'est pas de moi que je parle, mais de l'enfant que je ne suis plus. C'est un petit personnage que j'ai connu et qui s'est fondu dans l'air du temps.” Marcel Pagnol

Hopefully, we will have the opportunity to see the full trilogy in the coming years, as Antoine Seguin a plus d'un tour dans son sac:  he adapted Le Château de ma mère and Le Temps des Secrets for the stage, in the same vein.
