On Thursday 7 May, 14 teachers of French VCE were hosted at Melbourne Grammar School, attending the first session of the 2026 Ready, Set, VCE! professional development series. Following the path set by the AFTV Nailing it! and Y arriver pas à pas series of the last 5 years, our aim is to help VCE French teachers meet, collaborate and develop an effective curriculum.
Developing an effective curriculum
While this looks like jargon, we believe it's actually quite a simple objective: it simply means that we must develop a strategically progressive, skills-based curriculum (supported by the 3 Outcomes 1, 2, 3), that leads students upwards from Unit 1 to Unit 2, to Unit 3, to Unit 4, to the exam 😊 We therefore look at the evolution expected in SACs throughout the 2 years of VCE French, leading to the exam itself.
Strategically again, the AFTV offers two sessions in 2026:
During Session 1 on 7 May, facilitated by Elodie Lyoen and Isabelle Mangeot-Hewison, participants followed presentations on the evolution in tasks from UNIT 1 to Unit 2; and from UNIT 3 to UNIT 4, for each Outcome (O1: interpersonal communication; O2: interpretive communication; O3: presentational communication).
After looking at exemplars of tasks for each outcome in Units 2 and 4, teachers worked on developing tasks themselves; they had the opportunity to share, network and refine their own program.
The feedback from participants showed that they enjoyed the small group format, the opportunity to work with peers, the clarity of the
format and the valuable resources.
MERCI à tous les participants pour votre présence, votre convivialité, le partage de vos idées, et votre feedback enthousiaste et constructif.
Most importantly, as always, we are looking forward to continuing to work with everyone who wishes to keep sharing ideas and developing ideas/courses/tasks.
